The location of the organ at First Presbyterian Church in Rochester,
Minnesota followed considerable study regarding the acoustics of the
room and the placement of the worship center. After evaluating all
of the possibilities, including reversing the room, it was decided to keep the choir and organ in the chancel and to place the instrument on the main axis by creating new casework that would surround the beautiful rose window that was the focal point of the space. The organ case was created to blend with the simple Gothic nature of the church and extends forward from the rear and side chancel walls in order to avoid the previous instrument’s lack of projection due to its location in chambers that were set deeply into the two side chancel walls. The organ now speaks directly into the nave from its new location. All of the chancel furniture, including the choir risers, chairs and the console is movable providing much flexibility for the area to be used for worship, chancel drama and concerts. The light brown honey-toned oak casework is finished to match the chancel furniture. The gold stained façade pipes have natural upper and lower lips. |
